Vienna VA.—Following a wildly successful inaugural event in 2008, The Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts proudly hosts its 2nd 5k and Howl-o-ween Fun Run beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 24. This USATF-certified course runs through America’s only National Park for the Performing Arts and the scenic Shouse Village neighborhood. In only its second year, the Wolf Trap 5k experience has quickly become one of the most anticipated and buzz-worthy local events of the fall season, featuring activities, performances and prizes for attendees of all ages.

The run begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. at the Filene Center’s upper parking circle after an 8 a.m. warm-up session with Equinox Fitness Group. The course winds through the park and surrounding neighborhoods, and circles back to Wolf Trap.

Additional activities boast fun for the entire family, including a one mile fun run, costume contest for children, live entertainment from multiple Wammie award-winning roots-rock band The Grandsons, and a special children’s performance from Wolf Trap teaching artist John “Kinderman” Taylor. New for this year—race timing will be managed by Amazing Race Timing using ChronoTrack D-tags. Each single-use D-tag is assigned and given to runners before the race and will accurately record the time at which runners cross the start line, the finish line and several split times in between.

All proceeds from ticket prices serve to benefit Wolf Trap’s diverse array of nationally renowned arts & education programs. Interested individuals and families are encouraged to visit the event’s registration page at http://www.wolftrap.org/Find_Performances_and_Events/Event/5k.aspx
for a list of participation categories and price points. The top two male and female finishers will win two tickets for travel anywhere in the continental United States, courtesy of Jet Blue, with other prizes awarded to runners in subsequent age categories. Delegate Ken Plum will lead the event’s culminating awards ceremony and Senator Chap Peterson will be running as part of this year’s field.
