The mission of the Wolf Trap Opera Company is to discover and encourage the finest emerging talent in the opera field.
- Filene Young Artists are singers of exceptional achievement and potential who are at an interim point between academic training and full-time professional operatic careers. These Artists perform all solo roles in our summer opera productions – leading, featured, and supporting.
- Studio Artists are singers of significant potential who are current undergraduates or who are making the transition between undergraduate and graduate study. Studio Artists sing small roles and chorus in WTOC main-stage productions, present a scenes program, and study a rigorous performance-based curriculum.
- Through the competitive Fellowship program, the Company provides opportunities for directors, coach/accompanists, stage managers, technicians, and opera administrators.
- All productions are professionally conducted, directed, coached, and designed. They are performed in original language with full orchestra.
Inside the Opera
One hour prior to curtain for every opera performance at The Barns, join Wolf Trap Opera Director Kim Pensinger Witman as she reveals her unique perspective on the performance. The informal pre-show talk takes place in the Center for Education, adjacent to The Barns, and provides an excellent opportunity to become an opera insider!
